Conveniently Restore Your Smile with CEREC Same-Day Crowns

CEREC logoCEREC same-day crowns at our Albuquerque, NM, practice conveniently restore a tooth that has been damaged or severely decayed. This type of restoration requires fewer appointments than traditional dental crowns. Made from incredibly strong and durable porcelain, same-day crowns are designed to look extremely lifelike and can last for many years with proper care. Using state-of-the-art CEREC (chairside economical restoration of esthetic ceramics) technology, Dr. James Slaman can prepare your tooth, take impressions, and design and place your restoration in a single appointment.

What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a cap that is placed over damaged teeth to reinforce the structural integrity of the tooth. Crowns are typically made from porcelain, ceramic, zirconia, or metal. This type of restoration helps strengthen teeth that are:

  • Cracked, chipped, or broken
  • Unable to be treated with a dental filling, inlay, or onlay
  • Worn down due to teeth grinding and jaw clenching
  • Discolored or stained
  • Crooked or misshapen

Dental crowns are usually secured in place using dental cement to ensure your strong and sturdy restoration does not move out of place.

The Benefits of Same-Day Crowns

Compared to traditional dental crowns, same-day crowns save our patients valuable time and expense. We can complete the entire process from tooth preparation to design and placement of the restoration all in one office visit. Many patients find the overall process of same-day crowns more convenient and affordable by eliminating the need for temporary restorations and additional follow-up visits.

Thanks to CEREC computer technology, impressions of your teeth and gums can be taken digitally and sent directly to the machine that will design your restoration. Your restoration will be milled on-site as opposed to traditional dental crowns that are created in a partner dental lab that typically takes two weeks to fabricate your restoration.

Same-Day Crown Process

During your office visit, Dr. Slaman will first perform a thorough examination to determine the extent of any damage and the state of your oral health. Once he has determined that there is decay or damage requiring intervention, he will discuss the treatment options available to you in detail before crown placement. This process may include tooth decay removal, root canal therapy, or tooth reshaping.

If you qualify for a same-day dental crown, Dr. Slaman will then use advanced technology to take 3-D digital impressions of your teeth and gums. The images will be immediately uploaded to a computer in the exam room for easy display. As he designs and customizes your crown for a precise fit, Dr. Slaman will be able to show you the finished design before completing the restoration. Once both you and the doctor are satisfied, Dr. Slaman will send the 3-D impressions to the CEREC machine to carve your crown from a single block of porcelain that will match the natural look and shape of your tooth.

Many patients find the overall process of same-day crowns more convenient and affordable by eliminating the need for temporary restorations and additional follow-up visits.

Typically, it will take less than an hour for your natural-looking crown to be fabricated. Once completed, Dr. Slaman can attach the crown in place and check your bite to ensure proper placement and a comfortable fit. In a single, convenient appointment you can leave our office with a fully restored tooth.
