What to Do If a Tooth
Has Been Knocked Out

  • Pick up the tooth by the chewing surface instead of the root
  • Rinse the tooth with clean water
  • Place the tooth back in the socket if possible
  • If you can't resocket the tooth, tuck the tooth in your mouth against the inside of your cheek or put it in a cup of milk
  • See a dentist as soon as possible

Missing Teeth? You're Not Alone or Without a Solution

120 million people in the U.S. are missing at least one tooth — a figure that’s expected to trend upward in the next few decades.*

Bridges and Dentures

Dental Bridges

A bridge is made up of one or two false teeth that are supported by retainer crowns. These retainer crowns can cap natural teeth on either side of the tooth gap or be supported by implants. Bridges can help restore your bite, smile, and overall health.

Dentures

Dentures are dental prosthetics for people missing most or all of their teeth. Full and partial dentures are held in place by bracing around the jaw, gum, and bone of the dental arch. Our dentists will craft dentures customized to your mouth.

Dental Implant Options

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots designed to support a crown, bridge, or denture. According to a recent study, over 3 million dental implants are placed annually in the United States.

If you choose to explore dental implants to replace missing teeth, it’s crucial to understand how they work. Advances in modern dentistry make it possible to replace one, multiple, or all of your teeth with implants.

Implant-Supported Crown

If you are missing a single tooth, a dental implant will be surgically placed in the tooth gap. The implant will require about three to six months to heal properly. Then, a small connector — called an abutment — will be attached. A dental crown, crafted to blend in seamlessly with the surrounding natural teeth, is attached to the abutment to complete the implant restoration.

Implant-Supported Dental Bridge

Two or more consecutive teeth can be replaced with a bridge supported by dental implants. Instead of replacing each tooth with a single dental implant, we will surgically place at least two implants on either side of the gap, which will support the dental bridge. A bridge su[ported by dental implants will prevent bone loss while resembling natural teeth.

Implant-Supported Dentures

Dentures retained with implants are an ideal option for patients missing most or all of their teeth. A bar-retained denture requires two to five implants placed in the jawbone, while a ball-retained denture may require several implants. We can discuss the ideal implant option for your needs during a consultation.

Will I Be Sedated While Getting a Dental Implant?

If you are considering dental implant surgery, you may feel a degree of distress or anxiety about the procedure — or even just visiting a dentist in the first place. However, our Albuquerque, NM, dentistry practice uses a sedation method that ensures you don’t experience the discomfort you may be worried about.

We use conscious sedation designed to make you feel at ease during dental implant surgery. While you will still be awake under conscious sedation, the medication used causes drowsiness and works to eliminate feelings of stress.
