Types of Crowns Offered at Our Dental Office

We offer a range of crowns at our office in Albuquerque, such as porcelain, gold, and ceramic. Dr. Slaman will work with you to recommend the crown type that best fits your individual dental needs and goals.

Porcelain

A porcelain crown is virtually impossible to distinguish from a natural tooth. Made to match any shade flawlessly, porcelain is an excellent option for patients who want results that are both aesthetic and reliable in strength and durability.

Gold

Dr. Slaman is renowned for his skill with gold crowns. This type is typically recommended for the restoration of your back molars. It is incredibly strong and can withstand tremendous force. If you chronically clench your teeth, a gold crown may be a good option for you.

IPS e.max®

This type of material has a more lifelike effect compared to gold. IPS e.max has a slight translucence, allowing the material to interact with light as natural enamel does. This results in a sparkle that will leave you with a brighter smile and healthier-looking teeth.

Zirconia

Similar to IPS e.max, zirconia is an advanced ceramic that comes in a variety of shades. Our dentist will select the color that best matches your surrounding teeth for a seamless fit. Zirconia is reliable and extremely durable, and may be a good option for strengthening back teeth.

The State-of-the-Art CEREC System  Say Goodbye to Temporary Crowns

Whenever possible, Dr. Slaman will use our CEREC dentistry system to provide natural-looking permanent crowns in a single appointment at our Albuquerque, NM, office. By using a high-tech scanner to take impressions of your tooth, we're able to create custom designs that fit your tooth like a glove.

Patients can enjoy results in just one dental visit without worrying about repeat trips to the dentist or temporary crowns. Despite their advantages, CEREC crowns are not right for everyone. Our dentist will evaluate your needs and provide the treatment recommendation that is best for you.

What to Expect during Treatment

Creating crowns on-site allows us to closely oversee every step, from design to placement.
Creating crowns on-site allows us to closely oversee every step, from design to placement.

Consultation

Our dentist uses digital x-rays and an intraoral camera to evaluate your tooth and determine if a crown is the right option. After we decide you're a good candidate, we'll work with you to select a restorative material that best fits your functional and aesthetic dental needs.

Preparation

If extensive decay is present or a tooth root is compromised, root canal treatment is required before a crown can be placed.

Impressions

If you opt for a same-day crown, our dentist uses a scanner to take 3-D impressions of your tooth. The models are incredibly precise and eliminate the need for messy impression trays.

Fabrication

This information is sent to our in-office CEREC machine, which works similarly to a 3-D printer. The machine will create your restoration based on your digital impressions, which will guide automated tools in shaping a block of porcelain. The process usually takes less than an hour and allows you to skip the wait and temporary crown necessary for traditional lab-crafted restorations.

Placement

After the crown is ready, it is placed over the tooth and examined for comfort. Your dentist will make any necessary adjustments before securely bonding the crown to your tooth.

How to Care for Your Dental Crown

To ensure the longevity of your new crown, we recommend several tips:

  • Avoid chewing ice and biting your nails
  • When flossing, slide floss to the side instead of lifting it up and out
  • Practice good dental hygiene
  • Schedule twice-yearly dental appointments

What Is the Cost of Dental Crowns?

The cost of a dental crown depends on a few factors, such as what restorative material you select and which tooth is treated. The cost can also depend on any preparatory procedures such as dental implant surgery or a root canal.

If you have dental insurance, your crown should be partially or fully covered unless it is an elective treatment. We also accept CareCredit® financing and offer in-office payment plans at our Albuquerque office to help offset the price of dental care. Please let us know if you have any questions, and we're happy to walk you through the process.

Dr Slaman and employees are very porfessional. I was explained treatment and my options very throughly. The office is very clean and comfortable. Dr Slaman actually seems to care and be interested in my dental health, other places seem to just want to get paid and move on to the next client.

Fill the Gap in Your Smile Implant-Supported Crowns and Dental Bridges

Losing a tooth can have an impact on your self-esteem, oral function, and oral health. Our dentist in Albuquerque, NM, can restore your bite, boost your self-confidence, and improve your oral health with a dental bridge or implant-supported crown.

Implant-Supported Crowns

When a tooth is lost, the lack of dental roots causes the bone tissue in your jaw to begin to deteriorate. This is because the roots of a tooth provide stimulation to your jawbone, keeping it healthy and strong. Without prompt treatment, jawbone atrophy can lead to shifting teeth, sunken cheeks, and additional tooth loss. Dental implants act like tooth roots and are the only treatment proven to stop jawbone atrophy. Dr. Slaman in Albuquerque can fill the gap in your smile with an implant-supported crown that acts, feels, and looks just like a natural tooth.

Dental Bridges

A traditional dental bridge uses the two teeth on either side of the gap in your smile as anchor points. These teeth are capped with dental crowns to support replacement teeth. While a traditional dental bridge does not offer the same stability or protection to your jawbone as an implant-supported restoration, it can keep your teeth from shifting and restore function. Dental bridges also provide a more affordable way to restore oral function and complete your smile.
